Universal health coverage (UHC) gained global traction with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Under SDG 3.8, a sense or urgency was created among global health leaders to identify and scale effective strategies to ensure that everyone everywhere receives the quality health services they need without facing financial hardships. Global health is on the spotlight until at least 2030 for its ability to deliver on the SDG’s universal health coverage ambitions.

Although it may seem counterintuitive to implement emerging technologies like blockchain in the least resourced countries of the world, this is not the case. In our relatively recent past, technologies like the mobile phone and the smartphones have allowed low-income countries to skip fixed-lines and leapfrog to the next technology. Mobile health has transformed healthcare and strengthened health systems in developing countries.
